Sunshine Coast Fishing Report | Thursday 24 August 2023

It's been a quiet week for fishing on the Sunshine Coast! Conditions haven't been great, with only a couple of good days with light breezes between the windier spells. While estuary fishing has been on the quieter side, offshore has been nothing short of spectacular, with Snapper showing up everywhere. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for the next week looks pretty ordinary with windy conditions expected again. If you're planning your next fishing adventure, late next week might be your best bet, with slightly calmer conditions predicted. Make sure you check conditions on Fish Ranger before you head out.

Offshore Fishing

The Hards continue to be a hotspot for anglers, with reports of Snapper, Pearl Perch, and Amberjack catches. Snapper are everywhere, providing ample opportunities for those looking to reel in this prized catch.

Snapper fishing offshore from the Sunshine Coast is an experience like no other. These fish are abundant in the region, especially around the Hards. Anglers can find success using various techniques, such as jigging or using soft plastics. The key to catching snapper is understanding their feeding habits and choosing the right bait or lure to match. Local knowledge, patience, and the right gear can turn a day on the water into a snapper-catching adventure.

We recommend booking a charter with Smithy from Smithy’s Fishing Charters or Glenn from Deep End Fishing Charters who are both bagging out on Snapper at the moment.

Noosa River

Good Bream catches continue, particularly on the outgoing tide using pillies for bait. Flathead are about the river mouth and have been caught on prawn imitation and paddle tail soft plastics. If you’re chasing Trevally, try Woods Bay and Noosa Sound.

Maroochy River

Maroochy River continues to deliver catches of Bream which are scattered throughout the river, while the odd Flathead have been caught in the mid to upper reaches. Again, patience is key if you’re chasing Flathead. With the weather warming up, we should see some bigger flatties on the move, and you may even find the odd Mangrove Jack starting to venture out. A few Trevally, Jewfish, and Whiting have also been caught.

Caloundra

Caloundra is serving up mixed catches in the passage, with Flathead, Grunter, Jewfish, and the occasional Giant Herring being caught on soft plastics around the mouths of creeks. Summer Whiting are also making a big appearance, especially for those using beach worms as bait.
