Sunshine Coast Fishing Report | Thursday 23 May 2024

Welcome to this week's Sunshine Coast Fishing Report. It’s been a quiet week for fishing, with weather conditions limiting offshore opportunities. However, rivers have been productive for those with patience. This weekend looks promising, with light winds forecast for both inshore and offshore. Expect big tides due to tonight's full moon, along with cooler days and some rain.

Offshore

Offshore action has been limited recently due to weather conditions, with both Smithy's Fishing Charters and Deep End Charters reporting they were unable to get out over the past week. Despite this, we've had some reports of mixed reef fish caught around tuna schools close to shore. The upcoming weekend looks favorable for offshore fishing with light winds predicted.

Maroochy

Fishing the Maroochy River has required patience this week, with some good catches reported by those willing to wait. Whiting continue to be caught at the river mouth, with Trevally, Queenfish, Tailor and Bream stretching from the Motorway Bridge to the ski zone. Along Maroochydore and Moololaba beaches, we've had reports of some nice sized Tailor. The Mooloolah River mouth has delivered some nice Jewfish, Trevally and Tailor catches.

Noosa

In the lower reaches of the Noosa River, Flathead, Bream and Trevally have been biting well, while anglers fishing the mid-reaches have reported Flathead and Bream.

Caloundra

Caloundra has seen good catches of Trevally and Bream, with Jewfish, Flathead and Tailor reported off the beach.

Freshwater

With the cooler weather setting in, Bass are becoming less aggressive but Sooty Grunter are biting well. Both lures and bait have been effective, with weedless prawn soft plastics, MMD Bony Swims, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and jigs are recommended for lures. For bait, try fresh dead garfish, mullet or worms.

While it’s been a quieter week, the upcoming weekend promises excellent fishing conditions. With big tides and favorable weather, it’s the perfect time to wet a line.
